Melisa Merine

Founder & CEO of Verzatile Tutoring

Melisa is a Licensed Medical Lab Scientist with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Sciences and minor in Public Health from the University of South Florida. She developed her love for tutoring when she voluntarily tutored inner city students while studying at the University.

After graduation, she decided to share her knowledge by becoming a Chemistry Teacher for 3 years within the School District of Hillsborough County. She became the youngest Teacher in the Science Department at that time with competitive achievement records comparable to her fellow veteran counterparts. Every year, 90% of her students passed their rigorous Chemistry finals with a C or better even though the majority had personal learning obstacles with no interest in Chemistry. She attributes her success to voluntarily & selflessly tutoring students who struggled in large classroom sizes & collaborative settings, after school. It was then she realized the need for individualized attention that promotes equity by improving student's self-confidence & grades.

Melisa ended her classroom teaching in 2010 to become a Full-time Tutor. Her value for education and vision to see the success of struggling students nationwide has motivated her to launch Verzatile Tutoring. Tutoring provides the opportunity to give a student the individualized attention needed for his or her success that is often not experienced in the classroom setting. We find it so rewarding when the light bulbs of our students' understanding turn on and stay on. We celebrate with them when they regain their self confidence and the belief that they can do anything with hard work and a support team.

Melisa had to overcome great obstacles to become a first-generation college graduate despite her underprivileged and low socioeconomic upbringing in Jamaica. If she did it, then so can anyone! It takes a lot of hard work and support to do well. Verzatile Tutoring is willing to be part of you or your child's support team and success testimony.
