Hey Gems,
I recently saw the picture below on the internet and I couldn't help but giggle!

But then, I thought to myself, it wouldn't have been as funny had I seen this when I was teaching in the classroom - sigh. Teachers manage and juggle so many tasks before, during & after each class that I often wondered if my students learned anything. Teachers are also mothers, lawyers, doctors, therapist, counselors, police officers and managers all in one! In fact, effective teaching and learning cannot take place in poorly managed classrooms.
Teachers deserve all the support they can get. It is no wonder why in 2001, the US Department of Education released research indicating supplemental one-on-one tutoring programs showing to be effective at increasing overall student achievement.
Here are the identified best practices of tutoring programs:
Training tutors, especially novice tutors, on effective instructional strategies is critical to providing an effective tutoring program.
A diagnostic/developmental template should be used to organize the tutoring program for each student.
Formal and informal assessment needs to occur for each student to guide the tutoring process.
Tutors should track the progress of students in order to adjust their content and strategies to improve tutoring sessions.
Tutors should closely collaborate with the students’ classroom teacher to maximize tutoring effectiveness.
Tutoring programs should be structured around principles of learning and follow a sequentially arranged, systematic approach.
When I taught at my Title 1 public school, schools with the highest percentages of children from low-income families, I experienced so much behavioral and social issues. I voluntarily tutored my students, especially those at risk of dropping out, to ensure my students had the support they needed. I know tutoring works! I've seen it many times in and outside the classroom.
Today, I proudly support my fellow classroom teachers, parents and most importantly my students! Verzatile Tutoring is committed to fulfilling the best practices to ensure no student enrolled is left behind. See for yourself & book a session today!
